I've had to work on myself lately and work to make a decision about my future.
Whether to keep making stitches and to continue to help with the care of my aging mother, or to jump into a huge, once-in-a-lifetime, curatorial position that would have been life-altering, challenging and a huge ego-boost, but would have taken me away from my passion.
These are some of the stitches made while thinking about big changes.
It was painful to decide, ultimately, stitching will continue to sustain me.
So glad I have a community of artists who support my decision and an amazingly loving and supportive partner who is my rock.

The photos of your work are fantastic! I feel like I'm soaring above a landscape. What a beautiful view! Hoping that your heart is settled with your decision. Thanks for sharing your work and your thoughts with us.
ReplyDeleteNot an easy decision but your art has grown so much lately that the passion is obvious. When you go with your heart good things will come.
ReplyDeleteValerie and Mary Ann, thank you for your words of support. I do feel an overwhelming sense of freedom.
ReplyDeletego with the passion, always the best thing [should listen to myself....]
ReplyDeletethe stitching is exquisite
what a lot of thinking you have done ..
ReplyDeletehow beautiful..
the decision and the stitches
India and r- yes always best to go with passion. Whenever I don't listen to my intuition it makes me sad. Spring is here in Ohio, flowers bloom and so do we. My best to you.
ReplyDeleteLooove that stitching!
ReplyDeleteLife is so damn hard, but there are FLOWERS. Hugs to you. You did the right thing.
ReplyDeleteyour stitching is stunning - i can empathize with your quandary - in my case, go back to commercial interior design, lucrative, or stay in my heartspeak, printmaking and stitch. best wishes for following your heartspeak!
ReplyDeleteSupport, yes, I vote yes : )
ReplyDeleteyour gifts of creativity are deep. either choice, others would benefit from your involvement. I am happy that you will continue stitching! I am looking forward to seeing where your stitches will go next!!
ReplyDeleteReally really beautiful work...you are inspiring me!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lari. I've worked on this piece, stitched and removed stitches, more stitching and removing. The piece is finished now and I will share it after I know whether it was accepted into a show I entered.
ReplyDeleteYour work inspires me Christine. I first viewed it on India Flint's blog, just the glimpse of that black linen shirt with white stitching struck a profound note with me. Its funny isn't it. You either get it or you don't. I have a couple of cloths I'm stitching at the moment and when people ask me (because I carry them with me in waiting rooms and other public places) what I'm doing, I'm never sure how to answer them. What do you say? By the way, I'm so glad you found peace with your decision. It is indeed a dilemna we all face from time to time when faced with two amazing choices. Ego is powerful is it not?
ReplyDeleteAhipara, it thrills me to read that we have a mutual affinity for stitching. I do take my work with me and often, an older woman will ask what I'm doing. I am surprised at how many women tell me that they quilt or knit although, they don't seem to understand what I'm doing. I smile and ask them questions about themselves whilst I continue to stitch. I have made peace with my decision and couldn't be happier.
