I'm also obsessed with Japanese Boro, many examples can be found on Sri Threads blog Here
My dish towels hold the marks of my kitchen life. I really like the soft cotton.
if you look closely, you can see where my momma repaired the edge of the striped cloth with a zig-zag stitch on her sewing machine. |

I dipped some of my vintage linens in the dye bath for a bit We didn't have time for me to overdye to get a darker blue, but I love these colors. |
Inspiration comes in many forms, I'm happy my trip was filled with time well spent with lovely friends and rocks and water
Artifacts found in the ground before Barbaras cabin was built I love how she has them displayed on the wall in the cabin. |

Eggs raised by Scott Turner in Boyne City, MI. Shanna brought these for us to eat. |
Figs from California that I purchased before I left Cleveland |
i had no idea of the wonderful colours of that lake...your mention of dish towels reminds me of last fall, when i stayed with my friend in Ontario and we stitched and dyed on some of her dishcloths - the wear and tear made them so much more receptive to colour, besides having another story to tell
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I had no idea either. I kept saying, why haven't I been here before? Happy that you're on our continent, enjoy the summer here.
DeleteYour photos make me homesick......the air is so fresh there........water so blue.......and great idea for the Boro.....I keep dreaming of my stash of old carefully collected and well used and stained dishtowels I have in storage (in Michigan!).....somehow I could not let go of......and actually thought about last evening! Dreaming of indigo......what a great summer your having!
ReplyDeleteIt is so very beautiful and sparely occupied. I hope you get to retrieve your stash soon.
Deletethank you so much for these photographs of
ReplyDeletethat place. i spent so many days of sheer
bliss there in earlier years, have a stone and some rocks that i have traveled with since. they lie here in the SouthWest now and seeing these photographs, i know that i must somehow return them someday.
Those stones are smooth and comforting. You might well return there someday, but to pick up more.
DeleteBeautiful! I've never been to that part of the US. I must put this on my "to do" list.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. White fish point is where the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum is located. You can stay in the refurbished Light House Crews Quarters and see some of the best sunsets in North America.
Deletebeautiful images , and i do love the artifacts gathered on the wall
ReplyDeleteMarianna [ over the rainbow ] has sent me lovely pix of her visits to those places that she referred to as 'up north ', from her then home in Michigan.
always looks so peaceful , tho can be as wild as open sea i am told.
Oh Roz, it is wild and wonderful...except for the black flies that love to bite you close to the bone.
DeleteWonderful photos of up north. My husband grew up in Michigan and started college on the upper peninsula. While I've been to Ann Arbor several times, we've yet to venture further north. Maybe next trip.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to meet you in October and see what you've been stitching on. Looks like you're having a wonderful summer!
Jennifer, it will be sweet to meet you in person this fall. Yes, you should travel to the U.P. (Upper Peninsula) eat some smoked fish, walk and collect rocks and visit the state parks.
Deletelooks so familiar to me, those huge shores, having grown up at niagara and then falling im love with lake huron...glad you have refreshened.
