Walk photos and a Nest

A few pic's from  a walk last Fall, although the colors evoke Spring
This little friend has been hanging out on my porch upstairs this week.
I thought he was up to something.
Take a look.

Spring is in the air and anchored to my house
and
to my work.

Sunpainting in Honduras

Nuevo Paraiso, Honduras, C.A.
July, 2006

In 2006, I was asked to fly to the worlds' most dangerous airportTegucigalpa

Honduras, on a humanitarian mission with a group of swell people from Shaker Hts, Ohio.
Arrived with my two-50 lb bags packed with a mega-load of donated and purchased items malaria drugs
and
3 changes of clothes, one pair of red crocs and a pair flip flops
and
mosquito tent.

I found myself situated in a hot, humid, little village with not a thing familiar to me. Except smiling faces of glorious women and children.

Don't drink the water, you'll get parasites and probably die
Don't pet the dogs, you'll get parasites and probably die
Don't leave the compound outside the gates, you'll probably die

This is a what I did do and NOBODY else has ever done since. Trust me, medical brigades arrive here often.
I spent all my time with woman and children who, because of previous physical abuses by men including beatings, rapes and the like, have come to live in this safe haven.
The remaining members of my travel group built an orphanage (away from me). I was solamente yo!
Here are a few pic's
Disfrute!

All the "stuff" you see in the pics are things I brought. They didn't and don't have a darn thing.
I guessed at what to bring.

Sunpainting in Honduras for one week of heaven.
No cell phones, no TV, no electricity (sometimes) I lost 10 lbs and gained insight to possibilities.

USA Tax Day: destroy or to mend?

Nava Lubeslski

1999 Tax File, 1/4" x 22" x 22", shredded paper and glue, 2007

Nava states."My work explores the contradictions between the
impulse to destroy and the compulsion to mend."

Her paper paper sculptures, such as 1999 Tax File, she has taken her  paper receipts, tax files, pay stubs and associated ephemera to create an organic form.
See more here.

Perhaps in 3 - 7 years or so when the holding period expires for this years' taxes
I'll do something with our bits and pieces of tax documents.

Mary Ann and I friended each other on FaceBook (FB) just like Terry Jarrard-Dimond and I did.
I have written I have love/hate thoughts about FB, this is another love story.

Mary Ann & I met in person at QSDS in Columbus, Ohio last year.
I adore her. I adore her work.
She uses photos from her own family archives to produce these delightful pieces.

She has a nice exhibit currently on display at The Gathering Place in Westlake, Ohio.
I'm going to stop in there and take lots of pic's and then post them for you later this week.
Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, you can see more  here.

Making my own lines with old

A pile papers that are 20 years old. Throw them way?
These images are a sequence of what I did earlier this week
with a monoprint practice sheet made in '89?-ish.
(whilst nursing a horrid head cold!)

What to do?
I'll cut it out!
That's better.
What if it became 3-D?
Here, tacked onto a map of the U.S.A.
I can throw the paper away now.
I'm making my own lines.

Field Chapel

Boedigheim, Germany

Apropos of a week that began with Passover and will end with Easter.

Sometimes a traveller needs a place of quiet solitude.

The Field Chapel is a project designed and executed by the students of an Advanced Design/Build Studio at the Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture in Chicago for a ecumenical church co-operative in Boedigheim, Germany. The task of the design was to create a place of spirituality… as “an interdenominational chapel, a space for people who are in a search for God–a place for quiet reflection, but also one that welcomes hikers and cyclists who appreciate a rest stop that has a sense of beauty.”
The project is sustainable:
The design itself was based upon using donated, renewable and local materials. With the exception of the steel used in the fastening screws and column anchors, all materials come from locations within 40 km from the site.
