I started to draw small personal maps in my sketchbook in January 2009

And then I made an installation piece earlier this year see here.

I keep pushing this idea forward, I made this piece last month.

My mom used to say, what have you done lately? What are you doing now?
If you think of something do it!
I think I got pushed into this, don't you?
One month ago today she left,
this piece, PUSH,
is what I made after she did.

  1. PUSH is an exquisite piece. And seems a fitting tribute. I like your mom's view of "if you think of something, do it". Words to live by, huh?

    1. Thank you Jennifer. Yes, she repeated that phrase often, and I think that's how she lived as long as she did. Words to live by...

  2. "Mom" isn't always right but your Mom was relating to "think it-do it"! Great to see how your work is developing.

  3. I love this piece. It seems to combine all the elements of how you see, work and feel......"thanks Mom"......I say that from time to time myself....in times of deep reflection and appreciation for all that she gave me....

  6. Cindy nailed it.

And I think PUSH is proof that they never really 'leave.'
The marks that they leave on us are like DNA; maybe they mutate or transform but the germ of it stays there always and (I think and hope) we pass it on.

Thanks for sharing this with us. I love-love-love what you do with marks. You and Ms. India (oh, and Robyn!!!) are my three favortist eye-candies. :-)

    XOXOXO

  7. we met soon after you had begun making these wonderful maps - it's been a joy watching them grow, even though some of the "fertilizer" has been rough work for you.

looking forward to seeing you again very soon !
